After scrubbing his hands clean multiple times, ensuring not a trace of grime remained, he finally

stopped and looked up at his reflection in the mirror. The face staring back at him still held the visage of

youth, yet there was a harshness and cunning in his eyes that belied his tender years. The sound of

Maja’s voice drifted in from the living room, prompting him to hurry out. The doctor had just finished

stitching up Maja’s wound. The power was still out, leaving a single candle burning on the coffee table

as the sole source of light. Packing up his medical bag, the doctor cast a final, knowing glance at

Quentin before departing. Quentin sat on the couch, his peripheral vision locked on Maja. Lately, Maja

had been worried sick about Ian, and tonight’s injury had only added to her stress. She was slumped

over on the central sofa, dozing in and out of consciousness. The dim candlelight was insufficient, but

Quentin could tell she was likely feverish, probably in shock from the accident. Her heavy breathing

was the only sound filling the living room. He reached for a syringe from the side table, grabbed her

wrist, and was about to inject her when a burst of gunfire erupted outside, shattering the silence like a

sonic boom. Maja’s eyes snapped open in an instant. The syringe in Quentin’s hand rolled onto the

floor, and with a swift kick, he sent it skittering under the couch. “Maja, you seem to be running a fever,”

he said with feigned concern. She got up, pushing him towards the adjacent room. “You and Patric hide

in here. I’ll go check things out. Don’t you two come out until I come back for you.” Quentin caught her

hand, a shadow of malice briefly crossing his brow. He had no idea what was happening outside. This

wasn’t part of his plan. “Maja, Forbidden Island is a no-gun zone. It’s dangerous out there.” She placed

her hand over his, patting it reassuringly. “It’s okay. I’ll just take a quick look and be right back. Stay

hidden.” Quentin said nothing more, reluctantly letting go. Maja, fighting against her weakened state,

left without looking back. As soon as she was out of sight, Quentin made a call to check on the

situation at Middle Island. “Mr. Gellar, it seems like folks from Inner Island have made their way to

Middle Island tonight, and they’ve busted through the checkpoints.” Quentin gripped his phone tightly,

his expression turning grim. “Find out who’s behind this mess.” “Will do.” After hanging up, he

glanced at the back of his hand. There was a fresh smudge of blood—most likely Maja’s. He rubbed at

it vigorously, but the stain was already drying and wouldn’t come off easily. Maja stepped out of the

living room into the chaos beyond. The entire island was blacked out, making it impossible to see

clearly, but several powerful beams of light pierced the sky, followed by the terrifying sound of gunfire.

On Forbidden Island, guns were restricted to the elite few, and it seemed that tonight, nearly all the

higher-ups on Middle Island had been stirred into action. What in the world had happened? Her brow

furrowed as she contemplated investigating further, but then the sound of crashing vehicles halted her.

She cracked the door open and was met with a barrage of curses. She spotted a shadowy figure in a

cloak that concealed almost his entire body, except for a pair of black boots. The distance was too

great to discern his height, but the man caught in the vehicle’s headlights was clear to see. That

silhouette—it looked so much like Ian. Maja’s body tensed, and she almost stepped outside without

thinking. But then a group of men, radiating an aura of deadly intent, emerged. They injected the

cloaked man with something, causing him to collapse. They then bound him aggressively. The light

was blinding, and Maja could hardly see anything beyond a fleeting shadow, but that fleeting glimpse

was eerily reminiscent of Ian.
