Chapter 110

Worried about offending lan, she turned slightly as she sneezed, her shoulders shaking. Her face

looked paler from being drenched in the rain, her wet hair obediently sticking to her cheeks, her

eyelashes heavy with droplets of water.

Her clothes were thin and clung to her, outlining her elegant figure.

Maja rubbed her burning eyes and seeing lan’s car still there, politely asked, “Mr. Raymond, still

burning the midnight oil?”

lan was indeed working overtime. There was a party at his family’s mansion the next night which he

had to attend, so the meeting had been brought forward and had just ended.

He had assumed that Maja would ask for a lift, considering it was hard to get a cab at this intersection

and she had neither a bag for a phone on her.

But his car had been parked there for two minutes, and the cars behind were honking. He hadn’t said

anything, and Maja just smiled at him, politely and courteously, like treating an important client. lan was

somewhat annoyed, but he didn’t know why.

“Where do you live?” he asked, his tone cold, his profile exuding a chilly air.

Maja needed to get some documents from the Pennyfeather family, but if she went there, lan would

definitely find out about her identity in advance.

Plus, she was soaked through, getting in the car would only dirty it.

“I live nearby.”

A hint of complexity flashed in lari’s eyes. This was the first time he’d offered to take a woman home,

only to be gently refused.

Was she really as calm as Tyler said, or what?

He opened the car door, and Maja was a bit surprised, thinking he was inviting her in. Just as she was

about to make an excuse to refuse again, a handle popped out from the car door, a silver one.

“It’s an umbrella, take it.”

It wasn’t until Maja heard his words that she reacted and quickly took the umbrella.

“Thank you, Mr. Raymond, I’ll retum it to you when I get the chance.

Only then did lan realize that since they met, she had been addressing him as “Mr. Raymond“. Polite

and distant. The car door closed automatically, and he said nothing,

Maja was already drenched, so the umbrella was of little use now. But having refused him once, to

refuse again would be impolite. In fact, according to her truest thoughts, she wanted to boldly ask him

for

a hundred bucks for cab fare. But wouldn’t that blatantly indicate that she didn’t want to ride in lan’s

car? That might seriously piss him off.

So she kept quiet/deciding to walk back home. It would only take half an to walk back home, but it was

a bit inconvenient in her high heels.

Through the car window, lan saw her really walking down the path. His lips slowly tightened.

When Maja reached the point where her feet began to ache, she finally saw the gates of the

Pennyfeather’s house.

The guard at the gate was shocked to see her.

“Ms Pennyfeather, you… why are you here?”

“I’m here to get a document for my dad.”

As she spoke, she walked through the gate with the umbrella.

She pressed the doorbell in the living room and waited for about ten minutes before Cristina, dressed in

pajamas, finally opened the door.

“What are you doing here?”

Cristina’s attitude was very cold, as if she wanted to prevent her from entering.

Maja looked at the living room behind her. The decor had almost all been charged to Cristina’s favorite

style.

There was a strange smell in the air, and Maja frowned, “I’m here to get my dad’s stuff, move.”

Cristina sneered and crossed her arms, “Grab your stuff and bugger off. You were the one who wanted

to leave this family, don’t think about coming back.”

Maja laughed and looked at Cristina.

Seeing this, Cristina seemed a bit flustered and tightened her pajamas, ‘What are you looking at? Don’t

think I’m scared of you just because your dad’s not home.”

Maja didn’t argue with her and went straight upstairs to get the documents from the study. But as she

opened the study, she saw a family portrait on the desk. It was just Neil, Cristina, and Tricia and Glenn.

Her and her mom’s pictures had been put in the drawer.

She just glanced at it and then reached for the documents. At this moment, she smelled that strange

smell again, somewhat fishy and sour.

She felt a bit sick to her stomach.
